The REAL. Leadership team have been the recognised and approved leadership consultants for one of Europe's leading investors in food and agtech start-ups.
The Challenge
The organisation realised that leadership potential was a key indicator of future commercial success. They had previously invested in great companies with a great product or service, that had failed because of poor leadership.
The Solution
The REAL team were involved at the initial interview stage to assess founder’s leadership capabilities using our proprietary leadership scorecard. This was one of the key inputs alongside commercial viability and investment potential. The team were then involved with intensive group and 1:1 leadership coaching with the successful companies to improve not only their founder, but also their senior team’s, leadership potential.
Our Impact
Investment: Not only did we provide reassurance to the client as part of their recruitment process, but we were also able to improve the portfolio’s chance of future investment success by growing their leadership team’s capabilities.
People strategy: The biggest challenge for the portfolio companies was recognising that the people and capabilities that had got them where they were today, would not be suitable for where they needed to be tomorrow. It meant some tough decisions but ultimately for the best of the business.
Honesty: Helping some founders realise they may not be the best leaders, they may need to step back and surround themselves with better leaders to guarantee the success of their business. Helping passionate founders develop their leadership skills as their business scaled and they found themselves managing multiple investors and stakeholders.
